Walkin’ for the paws

Ever just decide to walk 100 miles? Not many of us have, but Amos Hall IV decided it would be a great way to celebrate his 70th birthday! He, his friends, and family have created the week-long 100 mile walk to replace a discontinued Mt. Rainier climb. Participants drove to various locations around the Olympic Peninsula, hiked some truly spectacular trails, and camped at local hotels or B&B’s. According to the event’s website “everyone needs at least one audacious goal.”

Along for the “ride” this year was Dr. Stacy Steele of the Ocean Shores Animal Hospital.

From August 2-7, Dr. Steele walked 100 miles to benefit North Beach PAWS, Spider Rocks, and the WorldVets organization.

For more information, visit the 100 mile walk website.

Vets in Mexico!

In January, Dr. Stacy Steele, Michelle Smith and Sarah Kelley, from Ocean Shores Animal Hospital, traveled to the southern part of Baja California, Mexico, as a part of the World Vets Organization to help the underprivileged town gain control of their growing dog and cat population.   They were joined by other veterinarians and assistants from Washington, California, Maryland, Georgia and British Columbia.

To find out more about the organization and how you can help, visit them at their website: www.worldvets.org

This trip was made possible in part by the community of Ocean Shores.  The staff at Ocean Shores Animal Hospital has been participating with North Beach PAWS and the City of Ocean Shores to provide low cost spays and neuters to low income local residents.  The skills developed at these functions were well received in Loreto.  And due to the large number of animals treated in Loreto, even better skills were brought back to continue work here in the North Beach area.  A GIANT heart felt thanks to all the folks in Ocean Shores that contributed time and money to aid the group in participating in this World Vets event.

Ocean Shores Animal Hospital is going GREEN!

We are using an energy-efficient washer and dryer for all laundry needs. Recycling glass, plastic, paper and cardboard. Implementing a staff 'Going Green' incentive plan. We are re-using supply packing materials. Implementing two-sided medical charts. Holding phone/Internet-supported vendor meetings. We are using washable fabrics instead of paper towels for cleaning. Using online banking for vendor invoice payments. We are placing pet food orders in bulk. Using half dryer sheets. Printing in-office signs on re-used paper.

We would welcome more suggestions! Please tell us your GREEN ideas!
